Bandai Thundercats Tower of Omens Playset

I'm resigned to the idea that I will more than likely never own a Cat's Lair playset. I was truly hoping that we would get one with Funko after seeing the DC Primal Age set but after all of the production snafus, it seems like Funko is washing their hands of the scale. I hope I'm wrong.

Anyway, the original Cat's Lair is hard to get ahold of and the ones available online are hugely overpriced in my opinion. I've known about this playset from the 2011 series for a long time but now that I have the Funko figures it felt like a good time go for it. The scaling is NOT perfect at all but it does make a nice display piece. Plus, these are dirt cheap. I've seen some as low as $10.

Here is the completed set. Basically a giant cat's head, gate, and tower. The set has magnetic Thunderlynx features. If you use the intended figures, the doors will open automatically on the gate and the towers Cat symbol will light up with a voice yelling, "Thundercats, Ho!" This would be nice if they utilized either of the Lion-O voice actors, but this is just a generic voice.

As you can see, the door is a little too short for the Cats but the head is massive enough to still look nice.

The tower is massive but there isn't much to it.

Even when you open it up, it's basically a display piece. Not much play to this set.

You can at least pose figures along the top of the tower and it doesn't look TOO silly.

I'm thinking about adding something to the sides here. The little canopy makes nice seats for the cats. If I could add gunner or communication stations here, that would at least be something for them to do.

Right now, I've added some Schleich rock pieces to the sides. They add some size and a little oomph to the set. I also took the Batman training set from the Batcave. It works well if you think of the helmet as having cat ears.

You know a company realizes they are peddling a stinker when they throw in the freebies. In the case of the 2011 line, these are pretty cool. You get invisible Tygra, a catapult, and a vehicle. The vehicle is basically the Cat's Lair turned into a car. Almost depressing to see that and know that it isn't the playset you bought.

I added in Tygra so you can see just how out of scale these are for Funko. I know some of you would want to know.

Toy Biz DC Superheroes Flash v2, Hawkman, Two Face

I started getting back into the DC Superheroes line early last year. Even though the Kenner Super Powers line is superior in a lot of ways, this line has a nostalgic value for me. Recently, I was able to add three more figures to my collection: Hawkman, Two Face, and the second version of the Flash! Version 2 is a HUGE upgrade over Version 1. V2 Flash doesn't rely on a wind up action feature so it actually has arm articulation. Now Flash can actually do some better posing... let alone throw a punch! V2 Flash also comes with a Quicksilver/Silver Surfer-esqe platform. It even moves forward on its own if you pull it backwards. Toy Biz vs Kenner. The Kenner figure is obviously the better choice. Carry Cases - MOTU, MOTU Deluxe, TMNT Deluxe

Continuing on with my Carry Case collection, I've added some more this month. First up is the Masters of the Universe Collectors Case. It was designed to hold 8 but I easily have about 20 figures inside. Definitely not enough to hold an entire collection but could easily contain one faction. I have the majority of the Heroic Warriors in this one. Makes it easier to find which figures I'm looking for when I change up displays. I love the art on these cases, they alway pick just the right art to capture your imagination and ready your brain for adventure. Now the Deluxe Masters of the Universe Carry Case is quite the upgrade, not only does it hold double the figures but the inside doubles as a playset! Amazingly cool. Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes The Thing

Christmas time this year saw some great additions to my Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes collection. This time in the form of the Thing. The Human Torch was one of the first MSH's I owned as a kid. Six years ago, I was able to add Mr. Fantastic. This past year, I added the Invisible Woman but now the collection is complete! Ol' Blue Eyes If you can't smash the Yancy Street gang, might as well clobber their sign. The family is finally together! You don't want to be on the other side of this fight. Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes Spider-man Attack Tower

My Christmas Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes haul continued with the Spider-Man Attack Tower, thanks to my brothers. I was able to get the Marvel Superheroes Training Center back in 2019 and it was something I never thought I would ever own. The same goes with this set. These were things I used to salivate over on the back of my action figure cards while growing up. Especially with the short life span this line had. Obviously, the whole set is a gimmick-filled toy made to destroy your Spider-Man's joints but it is still pretty cool. I look forward to using it as a display piece in the future. Star Wars Power of the Force Red Box Vehicles X-Wing, AT-ST, and Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper

Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper This was the only one of these three vehicles that my brother and I had as kids. We had two vintage scout troopers so finally having a speeder bike was a big deal. An added plus was that it was the same mold as the vintage line so our original scouts could finally feel the air fog up their goggles. The new scout figure introduced one of my least favorite things about the new Power of the Force line: wide stance, bending knee figures. They just look awkward off of their vehicles and besides the speeder bike, no one else could ride unless they had similar legs. Say what you will about the vintage vehicles and beasts but the trap door mechanism made it possible for most anyone to ride. Thankfully, like I mentioned, this was a vintage mold so we didn't face that issue YET. AT-ST My best friend had the AT-ST so I never felt the rush to go buy one.
