Star Wars Power of the Force Classic Edition 4 Pack

I had no idea this 4 pack existed until a few weeks ago. As I've previously mentioned, my first Star Wars toys were hand me down vintage figures. Later on I would get Bend-ems and the Micro Machines sets, but the vintage figures were my Star Wars figures until Power of the Force 2 came out. Apparently, this pack was released ahead of their arrival in a way to both build anticipation and also create a neat throw back for classic fans. If I had known about this, I would have been ALL over it. I only had Hoth Han Solo and Bespin Luke in my collection at the time so having these versions of the two would have been amazing. I didn't even have a Chewbacca or a Darth Vader, so yeah. I would have bought this. I probably would have bought two, one to open and one to keep as a memento. Star Wars toys were just so rare at the time that the idea of having one complete in package would have been a piece of art for me.

I had been watching some of these on ebay for awhile but I finally found a very nice price listing for one. Until it arrived, I very much was undecided if I would open it or not. I felt like opening it would mentally force me to want to collect vintage along with the POTF and that isn't something I'm interested in doing. However, when it arrived this week, I just couldn't fight opening it and I am glad I did. These figures are just so great. The simplicity of the sculpts really took me back to those days of playing outside as a kid. I'll admit they are not perfect. I think Chewie suffers from uneven legs and it seems like Luke and Han both have a foot that is bent too far up but that might just be a byproduct from being in package too long. And Vader's head seems to be angled a little to the side. I do like that they went with the small Han head versus his balloon shaped head. In the end, though... these are great. Will I begin collecting vintage? I hope not. I do want to get a retro collection Leia to go with these guys but overall, I guess we'll see what happens.

GoBots: Guardian Command Center

If there is one thing that gave GoBots a leg up on Transformers it was that they had playsets. They had two official, two unofficial, and one unproduced set. Playsets go a long way with me and if you've followed this blog for awhile that shouldn't be a surprise to you. Probably the most important GoBot playset was the Guardian Command Center. I never had one growing up but I did get a brand new one from Dallas Vintage Toys this week. There is always a magical feeling when you get something brand new. It is a little bit like time travel for the emotions. Everything here was brand new but unfortunately it had water damage, as you can see in the pictures. This wasn't a huge problem but it did cause me grief in the stickers department. The entire sheet had developed a few layers of grime from dust and being in a water damaged box. Carry Cases - MOTU, MOTU Deluxe, TMNT Deluxe

Continuing on with my Carry Case collection, I've added some more this month. First up is the Masters of the Universe Collectors Case. It was designed to hold 8 but I easily have about 20 figures inside. Definitely not enough to hold an entire collection but could easily contain one faction. I have the majority of the Heroic Warriors in this one. Makes it easier to find which figures I'm looking for when I change up displays. I love the art on these cases, they alway pick just the right art to capture your imagination and ready your brain for adventure. Now the Deluxe Masters of the Universe Carry Case is quite the upgrade, not only does it hold double the figures but the inside doubles as a playset! Amazingly cool. Toy Biz Batman Batmobile

Recently, I learned that the Toy Biz Batmobile was a two seater! Talk about a game changer. I loved my Kenner Batmobile, it had the engine missile, machine guns, and the pop out/rotating fire effect, but it could only hold Batman. As a 1966 Batman devotee, I always wanted Robin to ride batarang so that he could hear lectures about automobile safety as he approached his 16th birthday. It took a bit of searching but I found a pretty good one in $50 range on Ebay. The stickers were included but I decided not to apply them. I love the chrome features over the gold hubcaps on the Kenner Batmobile. The passenger seat is everything for me with this. The gear shift opens secret missile launchers in the front. The Bat Trunk was an interesting feature. It has a lot of depth, which I guess can be useful for taking criminals to Arkham, or disposing of their bodies. Super 7 Man at Arms and Beastman

I know a lot of people have had their issues with Super 7 and their handling of the MOTU license. Speaking for myself, I know things haven't been perfect but I have not experienced the same issues that others have had. I've purchased the entire MOTUSCLE line, one of the Power-Con 3 packs, and many of the vintage style figures. Not everything has been perfect but everything has definitely improved with each release. The Three Terrors were definitely the best figures they have put out from my experience. The Hordak and She-Ra both had issues with their legs being too stiff. From the next wave, I bought Man at Arms and Beastman and I can vouch that that problem has been fixed. I never owned the vintage Beastman because I hated the face sculpt. The Super 7 face, however, is wonderful. It is not as a great as the 2008 Classics version, but it is miles above the vintage figure. A great team I always wanted to see. Beastman will never top He-Man.....

Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes Custom Nick Fury, Havok, and Quicksilver

I love the early Toy Biz line, from DC and Marvel Superheroes to the X-Men. Unfortunately, the later into the 90s you go, the larger and dumber some of the sculpts became. Yikes. So, I try to stick mainly to the early years or figures that fit to that scale. And if I can't find what I want, a custom is the way to go. By the way, if you want a quick base for a custom, the Toy Biz Daredevil unscrews so you don't need to crack his torso. Nick Fury is one of those figures that goes just a tad too large in comparison to the early figures. Its a shame because they did an awesome job. In creating mine, I decided to go into the MCU/Ultimates direction. He uses a Daredevil torso, Punisher arms and legs, a JLU John Stewart head, and a JLU gun holster. I think it turned out pretty well. Plus, I now have a basic idea to create any SHIELD figure. Quicksilver was another one that Toy Biz did a nice job with.
