Masters of the Universe Eternia Minis Grayskull, Snake Mountain, and Slime Pit Diorama/Displays

 


    Obligatory opening lines about how I love Masters of the Universe. You probably get that at this point. Anyway, I remember when the Minis first debuted during the Matty Collector days. I thought they were neat at the time but collecting the Classics figures was expensive enough, so I passed on them. Fast forward to 2021, where I've sold off my Classics collection (except the Laser Light Figures), I've left my vintage collection at my parent's house where future generations can discover them, and I'm only really collecting the Mega Construx brand. The only issue here is that the breaks seem to be HUGE in between releases of  Waves. 

    So during this 'in between' period, I've rediscovered the Minis. I LOVE the boxed displays and how the figures look like they jumped right out of the Most Powerful Game in the Universe mobile app. Also, as an uncle of three 0-4 year olds, I want to have something MOTU at my place that they get into when visiting. Alright, enough words, let's check these out.

Gamerztek 8-Bit HD and Gaming Relics custom cases

I'm still a fan of retro video games which probably doesn't surprise anyone since I still collect retro toys. When I play, I normally use the Retron 5 as my console because I love being able to save my progress at any point while using my cartridges. However, Retron 5 doesn't recognize a lot of multicarts and it also can't load game cheats for homebrews or game hacks. To compensate, I had been using Retro Bit's Retro Trio with an upscaler for HDMI. Mega Construx MOTU Castle Grayskull

So, I finally picked up the Mega Construx Castle Grayskull. Amazon had it listed for $189 so I jumped on it. One bit of sad news, I like keeping box art but Amazon has a hassle-free shipping service where they just ship the box as is. I love Amazon but I am not a fan of this service as they put shipping labels all over the front of the box, ruining it. Luckily, the inside of the box delivered something even better... How cool is that? So everything worked out in the end. The packaging by Mega Construx is actually very cool. All of the pieces to the Castle came in these great cardboard boxes... Again, very cool. The vintage cross sell on the covers was a very nice touch. The manual included all of the cover art inserted throughout so if you wanted to toss the box, you didn't have to feel bad about it. 30th Anniversary Tribute to the New Adventures of He-Man

This year marks the 30th Anniversary to the New Adventures of He-Man. I never cared for the show as a child. It was just too different: different themes, different characterizations, different characters, different voices, different settings, etc. It was just too much change to accept. I did like the action figures. I still remember when my brother and I found He-man and Skeletor at a Kay Bees. We loved them and even bought a Flipshot because we thought it was Man at Arms. As the years went on, it really bugged me that I didn't care for the show. I mean, what is not to like? You've got He-man... fighting Skeletor... in space... with a lightsaber. I was a big Silverhawks fan so this screamed awesome to me. The DVD sets were released in the early 2000s so I decided to give it another try. Unfortunately, I still didn't care for it. Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes Custom Nick Fury, Havok, and Quicksilver

I love the early Toy Biz line, from DC and Marvel Superheroes to the X-Men. Unfortunately, the later into the 90s you go, the larger and dumber some of the sculpts became. Yikes. So, I try to stick mainly to the early years or figures that fit to that scale. And if I can't find what I want, a custom is the way to go. By the way, if you want a quick base for a custom, the Toy Biz Daredevil unscrews so you don't need to crack his torso. Nick Fury is one of those figures that goes just a tad too large in comparison to the early figures. Its a shame because they did an awesome job. In creating mine, I decided to go into the MCU/Ultimates direction. He uses a Daredevil torso, Punisher arms and legs, a JLU John Stewart head, and a JLU gun holster. I think it turned out pretty well. Plus, I now have a basic idea to create any SHIELD figure. Quicksilver was another one that Toy Biz did a nice job with. Kre-O G.I. Joe Custom Overlord and Dictator

When I was a kid, I lost more than my fair share of G.I. Joes. Two however, have stuck in my memory because of how much I enjoyed playing with them.  The first wasn't even truly a G.I. Joe. He was from the U.S. Forces line by Remco: Tigerclaw. The second, wasn't a G.I. Joe either, he was a Cobra: Overlord. Obviously, I had a thing for masked characters with claws.  Anyway, I'd been wanting to add Overlord to my Kre-O collection. I tried making his original look but every combination of parts I tried just didn't appeal to me like the original figure. However, something happened today as I stared at my piles of spare parts. I still wasn't sure what I had in mind as my hands instinctively connected pieces but once they were finished I realized what I had done. I had combined Overlord and Tigerclaw together.
