Masters of the Universe Eternia Minis Grayskull, Snake Mountain, and Slime Pit Diorama/Displays

 


    Obligatory opening lines about how I love Masters of the Universe. You probably get that at this point. Anyway, I remember when the Minis first debuted during the Matty Collector days. I thought they were neat at the time but collecting the Classics figures was expensive enough, so I passed on them. Fast forward to 2021, where I've sold off my Classics collection (except the Laser Light Figures), I've left my vintage collection at my parent's house where future generations can discover them, and I'm only really collecting the Mega Construx brand. The only issue here is that the breaks seem to be HUGE in between releases of  Waves. 

    So during this 'in between' period, I've rediscovered the Minis. I LOVE the boxed displays and how the figures look like they jumped right out of the Most Powerful Game in the Universe mobile app. Also, as an uncle of three 0-4 year olds, I want to have something MOTU at my place that they get into when visiting. Alright, enough words, let's check these out.

Will It Motu or Notu? Schleich Big Knights Castle

Schleich has been around for quite while. They specialize in super detailed animals and fantasy creatures. More recently, they have been adding figurines and now "action figures". These toys are all pretty awesome and are in a 3 3/4 scale, like Star Wars and G.I. Joe. They have been making playsets and dioramas, as well, and a few of them really caught my eye. Since I have been on a vintage MOTU binge, my mind immediately began trying to figure out just how well these playsets would scale with my toys. Transformers Legends Scale Jazz, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Starscream, and Thundercracker

Around the end of the G1 line, Transformers made the Pretenders which produced some smaller versions of some popular bots like Jazz and Starscream that would fit in different shells/skins. In 1989, they re-released these figures without the shells and just called them Legends. In the 2000s, Hasbro decided to bring this scale back with their Robots in Disguise, Transformers Universe, Reveal the Shield and various other lines. Over time, the scale has continuously fluctuated so that it is tough to understand just how different figures will line up. This proved particularly challenging for me when I was searching for an appropriately sized Optimus Prime for my GoBots. Well, now I have added some more Transformers to my collection, Jazz, Bumblebee, Cliffjumper, Starscream, and Thundercracker. They are all about the same size. Kre-O Cobra Forces/Terror Drome

A few years ago, I found myself coming to terms with the end of MOTUC and was feeling kind of done with collecting toys. That was until I came across the Kre-O set of Slaughter's Marauders and Iron Grenadiers on Amazon for only $25! I had been aware of Kre-O when it first started but I hadn't really paid much attention to it. Long story short, I spent the next year stocking up on a lot of what I had missed. What really enticed me about these figures was the customizability that was possible akin to playing Fire Pro Wrestling. The details didn't matter too much as long as it could pass the 'squint test'. This post is going to focus only on my collection of Cobra figures and my modified Terror Drome. Later on, I'll hit the Joes and the Iron Grenadiers. Nemesis Enforcer and Serpentor. Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Updated pics + Custom Tiger Zord

  A few years ago, I came across the Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line on Amazon and went all in.  The result was this blog and even my twitter account  @BeyondUbernerd .  Over the years, though, there was still one zord that I was missing, the Tigerzord. Using an extra Saber Tooth  Tiger, I finally filled that void. And since I was already taking pictures, I decided to go ahead and take new pictures of the rest of the zords. And then, of course a shot of the bad guys. I'd still like to make an Ivan Ooze and a Scorpina at some point. I still have the Megazord, my stand in for Titanus, and my custom Serpentera but they were too large for camera shots I was doing at the time. I'll work on getting new pictures of them in the future.

Funko - Savage World - Thundercats Wave 1

Masters of the Universe has always been one of my favorite franchises. There is a particularly visceral charm to it that has captivated my imagination for years. Thundercats falls into that same category. Since I was born in 1986, I wasn't old enough to have watched the show's original run. However, I did have the action figures for Lion-O and Jackalman and a coloring book that told the story of the Thundercats search for their missing Time Capsule. These were more than enough to hook me on the franchise.  I was able to rent a few VHS episodes from Blockbuster in early 90's but I wasn't able to fully grasp the glory of the refugees of Thundera until Toonami added it to its programming. This show really had a lot going for it. The animation was fantastic, the characterizations and voice acting were superb and the music was enthralling.
