Super7 He-Ro and Eldor

The Powers of Grayskull wave from Super 7 was a super jump in quality over the Filmation Wave 2. I had previously commented on the brittle plastic but this wave fixes that pretty well. Everything is nice and rubbery. Not as rubbery as the vintage and Three Terrors figures, but much closers than they have been. And the legs joints are even better.

Such a juxtaposition of personalities.

Don't let his Ken doll face fool you, this is a great toy. The Vacmetal is shiny and the cloth cape is great.

His magic staff doesn't really have the action feature that it is supposed to have because it does not stay closed like it should. A minor negative unless that was a selling point for you.

"The past returns!" - Donatello

"Everything is meaningless" - Solomon

Hands have a 360 swivel which should be useful but it isn't. More on that later.

Giant book of Living Spells

Book to Eldor size comparison

Stickers for inside the book - Techno Organic Dinosaurs and He-Man. He is undisguised for some reason.

Portraits of He-Ro and Eldor. Eldor is apparently old man Thor.

The Book of Living Spells is WAY too big for Eldor to hold at all. If you have extra pieces to your Castle Grayskull, this is where they come in handy.

So for this wave, the sculpts are wonderful and the joints are great. The accessories aren't too well thought out but that might be because they were just going off what was left to them from the original prototypes. Who knows but it is something to keep in mind.

Star Wars Power of the Force Wave 1 Collection

I've always loved Star Wars. It was something that just always seemed to be a part of my life. I have mentioned before how I was able to benefit greatly from having older cousins who grew out of their need for toys and passed them down to my brother and I. With Star Wars, it was no different. We were given a good 30ish vintage figures as well as a well used Millenium Falcon that was missing quite a few pieces and we loved them.  Just like we did with Masters of the Universe and other toy lines, whenever my brother and I had a chance to visit a garage sale or an antique shop, we looked for more Star Wars stuff to add to our collections. It was the late 80's and early 90's so there weren't really any other options. Eventually, the Justoys Bend-Ems came out. We bought many of these but preferred the figures that were closer to the 3 3/4 scale. That Leia, 3PO, Yoda and R2-D2 filled some nice holes in my collection. The included Topps cards were very cool too. Not long aft...

Toy Hax Toy Stage - Castle Dungeon - Masters of the Universe Background

If you have never heard of Toy Hax, then you have been missing out on something wonderful. This site provides repro labels, mainly Transformers, but also some of the best backgrounds for action figures produced. They have many sub sections, including Masters of the Universe. Each of their designs also come in various sizes to meet your choice of figure scale or type of shelving you utilize for displays. This post will look at the large size Castle Dungeon. The Castle Dungeon is obviously intended be a section of Castle Grayskull. From left to right, there is a descending stairwell, computer console, weapons rack, and prison cell. The cell features dark red eyes in a pitch black room. The floor pieces have to be purchased separately but they are a lovely representation of the stone of Grayskull's floors. I bought these to go with my MOTUC collection that I had in my classroom but I am pleasantly surprised that the large size works alright with the vintage figure...

Flash Gordon

Flash Gordon. For many of us, seeing that name evokes the imagery, sounds, and energy of the fantastically over the top 1980 film. The bright colors. The Queen Soundtrack. Brian Blessed's Vultan's booming and jovial voice. This was my introduction to the franchise as well. It's an amazing film that still entertains as much today as it hoped to do back then. In fact, the film stuck with me so much that it pushed me to look further back into the history of Flash Gordon. "If this was the 'campy version', what was it really like?" Digging deeper, I found the 1970's Filmation series AND their hidden film. I say hidden because it has yet to be re released outside of a Japanese Laserdisc copy that some kind soul uploaded to Youtube. This was a great series that included more of the Flash Gordon world than the 1980's film. I especially love this incarnation of Thun, the Prince of the Lion Men. And of of course, Bob Ridgely's voice stands way out with...

Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Updated pics + Custom Tiger Zord

A few years ago, I came across the Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line on Amazon and went all in.  The result was this blog and even my twitter account  @BeyondUbernerd .  Over the years, though, there was still one zord that I was missing, the Tigerzord. Using an extra Saber Tooth  Tiger, I finally filled that void. And since I was already taking pictures, I decided to go ahead and take new pictures of the rest of the zords. And then, of course a shot of the bad guys. I'd still like to make an Ivan Ooze and a Scorpina at some point. I still have the Megazord, my stand in for Titanus, and my custom Serpentera but they were too large for camera shots I was doing at the time. I'll work on getting new pictures of them in the future.

Toy Biz Batman Batmobile

Recently, I learned that the Toy Biz Batmobile was a two seater! Talk about a game changer. I loved my Kenner Batmobile, it had the engine missile, machine guns, and the pop out/rotating fire effect, but it could only hold Batman. As a 1966 Batman devotee, I always wanted Robin to ride batarang so that he could hear lectures about automobile safety as he approached his 16th birthday. It took a bit of searching but I found a pretty good one in $50 range on Ebay. The stickers were included but I decided not to apply them. I love the chrome features over the gold hubcaps on the Kenner Batmobile. The passenger seat is everything for me with this. The gear shift opens secret missile launchers in the front.  The Bat Trunk was an interesting feature. It has a lot of depth, which I guess can be useful for taking criminals to Arkham, or disposing of their bodies. I guess everyone has competing views of the Caped Crusaders thes...
