Funko Savage World Thundercats Wave 2

2018 was an exciting time for me because we finally received Thundercats in the same scale as Masters of the Universe! It was a dream come true for myself and, I'm sure, many other children of the 80's. The excitement was unfortunately short lived as the factory that Funko worked with screwed up the plastics used on hip articulation. Many figure arrived with broken or soon to be broken crotches and Funko was dealt a pretty serious black eye.

However, they worked hard to fix that issue but that also pushed back Wave 2 of Thundercats over a year. During that time, they went ahead with a mass market retail approach for a DC Comics universe in the Savage World style. While there were some nice toys in this line, especially the Bat Cave, the overall appeal to general audiences didn't seem to be there. A lot of planned Savage World lines seemed to get axed because of the gamble not paying off.

Thankfully, Thundercats Wave 2 made the cut and began arriving this past quarter. Personally, I wish Funko never tried to take that leap with DC figures. Toys are a niche market these days and I don't think anything will change that. Its like trying to sell chalkboards to people who have a tablet. I hope that this Thundercats wave sells well enough to encourage Funko to not give up on the Savage World concept and to especially give us MORE Thundercats! With Mattel bringing back their 5.5 MOTU line, maybe there is hope to feel more of the magic and the roar.

As far as this wave is concerned, zero hip/crotch issues. None. Nada. Everything is fixed in that department. The only problem I noticed was just something that doesn't really matter and that is product serial numbers. Wave 1 had the numbers printed under the boot of the figures whereas this wave has them printed on their backs. They definitely stand out but I can overlook them, especially considering that these figures aren't breaking.

Kenner Silverhawks

Around 1990, my family moved to Indiana, near my mom's hometown. Every so often, we would go shopping at the local mall with my Grandparents. During that first year, we visited Kay Bee Toys and they had a giant lot of Silverhawks that they were liquidating. Custom Super Powers Cyborg Superman

I'm a huge fan of Green Lantern, so as I have been building up my DC Superheroes collection, I realized I needed a good villain from his side of things. I found a seller on eBay listing some stellar looking customs under $100. I decided to take the risk on their Cyborg Superman. Let me just say that I am GLAD that I did! First off, here is their store:  Bigfoot6220 ebay store Secondly, here is Cyborg Superman!  The figure is pretty cool. They used an authentic Super Powers Superman as a base and gave it some great paint apps. The action feature still works as well.  The cape is custom but nice material. The logo seems to be thin cardstock that has been glued to the fabric. Not great, but not bad either. I don't have a Toybiz GL yet but, obviously, the cyborg is a great villain for Superman as well! I'm pretty satisfied with this figure and my Legion of Doom is continuing to round out well.

Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes The Thing

Christmas time this year saw some great additions to my Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes collection. This time in the form of the Thing. The Human Torch was one of the first MSH's I owned as a kid. Six years ago, I was able to add Mr. Fantastic. This past year, I added the Invisible Woman but now the collection is complete! Ol' Blue Eyes If you can't smash the Yancy Street gang, might as well clobber their sign. The family is finally together! You don't want to be on the other side of this fight. GoBots: Crasher, Sparky, Rest-Q

Let's just get it out of the way. Transformers is the better show, series, story, idea, etc. Hasbro and Marvel just really knocked it out of the park. The action, drama, and depth of the franchise is pretty unparalleled. Honestly, outside of Iron Giant, how many companies made you genuinely sad about the death of a robot. Skyfire and Optimus, we're looking at you. Moving on, I always loved the GoBots toys. I loved their look, their scale, and their articulation. Yes, they rarely came with accessories but they didn't come across as a brick with moving forearms either. Sorry, Hound. And, for better or worse, they almost always looked like their animated counterpart or better. I won't get into Ironhide or Bumblebee because I'm really not try to put down the Transformers. Mega Construx Masters of the Universe - Battle for Eternia 5 Pack

Growing up in the late 80's and early 90's, I was able to enjoy the best of both decades. One of my all time favorites has always been Masters of the Universe. I grew up with the original toys all handed down to me by older cousins and I consumed all else that I could find. Secret of the Sword was a frequent Blockbuster rental at my house. On my 10th Birthday, a friend of mine tracked down a He-Man and Masters of the Universe cartoon VHS tape that I treasured. He even wrapped it in MOTU wrapping paper that I was very sad to have to rip open. I wasn't a fan of the New Adventures cartoon but my brother and I were sure to grab He-Man, Skeletor, and Flipshot from K B Toys. I watched as much of the 2002 series as I could but never was able to finish it until the DVDs were released. In 2008, I jumped in with everyone else on Masters of the Universe Classics.
