Funko Savage World Thundercats Wave 2

2018 was an exciting time for me because we finally received Thundercats in the same scale as Masters of the Universe! It was a dream come true for myself and, I'm sure, many other children of the 80's. The excitement was unfortunately short lived as the factory that Funko worked with screwed up the plastics used on hip articulation. Many figure arrived with broken or soon to be broken crotches and Funko was dealt a pretty serious black eye.

However, they worked hard to fix that issue but that also pushed back Wave 2 of Thundercats over a year. During that time, they went ahead with a mass market retail approach for a DC Comics universe in the Savage World style. While there were some nice toys in this line, especially the Bat Cave, the overall appeal to general audiences didn't seem to be there. A lot of planned Savage World lines seemed to get axed because of the gamble not paying off.

Thankfully, Thundercats Wave 2 made the cut and began arriving this past quarter. Personally, I wish Funko never tried to take that leap with DC figures. Toys are a niche market these days and I don't think anything will change that. Its like trying to sell chalkboards to people who have a tablet. I hope that this Thundercats wave sells well enough to encourage Funko to not give up on the Savage World concept and to especially give us MORE Thundercats! With Mattel bringing back their 5.5 MOTU line, maybe there is hope to feel more of the magic and the roar.

As far as this wave is concerned, zero hip/crotch issues. None. Nada. Everything is fixed in that department. The only problem I noticed was just something that doesn't really matter and that is product serial numbers. Wave 1 had the numbers printed under the boot of the figures whereas this wave has them printed on their backs. They definitely stand out but I can overlook them, especially considering that these figures aren't breaking.

Kre-O Cobra Forces/Terror Drome

A few years ago, I found myself coming to terms with the end of MOTUC and was feeling kind of done with collecting toys. That was until I came across the Kre-O set of Slaughter's Marauders and Iron Grenadiers on Amazon for only $25! I had been aware of Kre-O when it first started but I hadn't really paid much attention to it. Long story short, I spent the next year stocking up on a lot of what I had missed. What really enticed me about these figures was the customizability that was possible akin to playing Fire Pro Wrestling. The details didn't matter too much as long as it could pass the 'squint test'. Custom Vintage style Swift Wind

Finally finished my custom Swift Wind for the Super 7 She-Ra! I used an Imperial rubber unicorn as the base figure. Besides the obvious new paint job, the torso was way too thick for She-Ra's legs. Luckily, the figure was hollow. I cut a hole in the bottom of the figure and used a zip tie to compress its waist. For the wings, I reused and repainted the wings from the vintage Zoar figure.  I'm very pleased with the final product as She-Ra and Swift Wind look great alongside He-Man and Battle Cat.

Toy Biz Marvel Superheroes Custom Nick Fury, Havok, and Quicksilver

I love the early Toy Biz line, from DC and Marvel Superheroes to the X-Men. Unfortunately, the later into the 90s you go, the larger and dumber some of the sculpts became. Yikes. So, I try to stick mainly to the early years or figures that fit to that scale. And if I can't find what I want, a custom is the way to go. By the way, if you want a quick base for a custom, the Toy Biz Daredevil unscrews so you don't need to crack his torso. Nick Fury is one of those figures that goes just a tad too large in comparison to the early figures. Its a shame because they did an awesome job. In creating mine, I decided to go into the MCU/Ultimates direction. He uses a Daredevil torso, Punisher arms and legs, a JLU John Stewart head, and a JLU gun holster. I think it turned out pretty well. Plus, I now have a basic idea to create any SHIELD figure. Quicksilver was another one that Toy Biz did a nice job with. Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers Updated pics + Custom Tiger Zord

  A few years ago, I came across the Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers line on Amazon and went all in.  The result was this blog and even my twitter account  @BeyondUbernerd .  Over the years, though, there was still one zord that I was missing, the Tigerzord. Using an extra Saber Tooth  Tiger, I finally filled that void. And since I was already taking pictures, I decided to go ahead and take new pictures of the rest of the zords. And then, of course a shot of the bad guys. I'd still like to make an Ivan Ooze and a Scorpina at some point. I still have the Megazord, my stand in for Titanus, and my custom Serpentera but they were too large for camera shots I was doing at the time. I'll work on getting new pictures of them in the future.
