Funko Savage World Thundercats Wave 2

2018 was an exciting time for me because we finally received Thundercats in the same scale as Masters of the Universe! It was a dream come true for myself and, I'm sure, many other children of the 80's. The excitement was unfortunately short lived as the factory that Funko worked with screwed up the plastics used on hip articulation. Many figure arrived with broken or soon to be broken crotches and Funko was dealt a pretty serious black eye.

However, they worked hard to fix that issue but that also pushed back Wave 2 of Thundercats over a year. During that time, they went ahead with a mass market retail approach for a DC Comics universe in the Savage World style. While there were some nice toys in this line, especially the Bat Cave, the overall appeal to general audiences didn't seem to be there. A lot of planned Savage World lines seemed to get axed because of the gamble not paying off.

Thankfully, Thundercats Wave 2 made the cut and began arriving this past quarter. Personally, I wish Funko never tried to take that leap with DC figures. Toys are a niche market these days and I don't think anything will change that. Its like trying to sell chalkboards to people who have a tablet. I hope that this Thundercats wave sells well enough to encourage Funko to not give up on the Savage World concept and to especially give us MORE Thundercats! With Mattel bringing back their 5.5 MOTU line, maybe there is hope to feel more of the magic and the roar.

As far as this wave is concerned, zero hip/crotch issues. None. Nada. Everything is fixed in that department. The only problem I noticed was just something that doesn't really matter and that is product serial numbers. Wave 1 had the numbers printed under the boot of the figures whereas this wave has them printed on their backs. They definitely stand out but I can overlook them, especially considering that these figures aren't breaking.

Seeing this boxed set a few years ago is what got me back into collecting G.I. Joe. I had passed on the joy of G.I. Star Wars Power of the Force Classic Edition 4 Pack

I had no idea this 4 pack existed until a few weeks ago. As I've previously mentioned, my first Star Wars toys were hand me down vintage figures. Later on I would get Bend-ems and the Micro Machines sets, but the vintage figures were my Star Wars figures until Power of the Force 2 came out. Apparently, this pack was released ahead of their arrival in a way to both build anticipation and also create a neat throw back for classic fans. If I had known about this, I would have been ALL over it. I only had Hoth Han Solo and Bespin Luke in my collection at the time so having these versions of the two would have been amazing. I didn't even have a Chewbacca or a Darth Vader, so yeah. I would have bought this. I probably would have bought two, one to open and one to keep as a memento. Star Wars Power of the Force Deluxe Red Card Figures - Luke with Desert Sport Skiff, Han Solo with Smuggler Flight Pack, and Crowd Control Stormtrooper

  When it comes to the 1990's Kenner Star Wars relaunch, there are a lot of things people love and a lot of things people hate. The Deluxe assortment was something I absolutely loved. These kinds of figures showcased Star Wars as a toy line vs a collector's line. And Kenner wasn't new to these types of gimmicks. Just one look at their Batman line and these things make complete sense. Unfortunately, I don't think everyone else felt the same way. The first wave of these figures were brand new concepts that felt  like they could belong in the universe. The second wave that would come with the Green cards gave us more things that actually existed in the films, save one. I can only imagine what a deluxe Chewbacca or Darth Vader could have come with. Kre-O Cobra Forces/Terror Drome

A few years ago, I found myself coming to terms with the end of MOTUC and was feeling kind of done with collecting toys. That was until I came across the Kre-O set of Slaughter's Marauders and Iron Grenadiers on Amazon for only $25! I had been aware of Kre-O when it first started but I hadn't really paid much attention to it. Long story short, I spent the next year stocking up on a lot of what I had missed. What really enticed me about these figures was the customizability that was possible akin to playing Fire Pro Wrestling. The details didn't matter too much as long as it could pass the 'squint test'. Vehicle to Figure - Thunderclaw, Battle Hawk, Attack Squid, and Battle Ram Chariot

When the Classics line began in 2008, I immediately repurposed my vintage vehicles to go along with them. I also began to collect 200x vehicles. But now that I am veering back towards the vintage line, I wanted to see how they lined up. I am pretty happy with the results! Battle Hawk Battle Ram Chariot I prefer to use it with Hordak.  Room for Backup. Attack Squid I had also pick up a Thunderclaw in anticipation the Thundercats Classics line.
