Funko Savage World Thundercats Wave 2

Image result for thundercats coloring book"

2018 was an exciting time for me because we finally received Thundercats in the same scale as Masters of the Universe! It was a dream come true for myself and, I'm sure, many other children of the 80's. The excitement was unfortunately short lived as the factory that Funko worked with screwed up the plastics used on hip articulation. Many figure arrived with broken or soon to be broken crotches and Funko was dealt a pretty serious black eye.

However, they worked hard to fix that issue but that also pushed back Wave 2 of Thundercats over a year. During that time, they went ahead with a mass market retail approach for a DC Comics universe in the Savage World style. While there were some nice toys in this line, especially the Bat Cave, the overall appeal to general audiences didn't seem to be there. A lot of planned Savage World lines seemed to get axed because of the gamble not paying off.

Thankfully, Thundercats Wave 2 made the cut and began arriving this past quarter. Personally, I wish Funko never tried to take that leap with DC figures. Toys are a niche market these days and I don't think anything will change that. Its like trying to sell chalkboards to people who have a tablet. I hope that this Thundercats wave sells well enough to encourage Funko to not give up on the Savage World concept and to especially give us MORE Thundercats! With Mattel bringing back their 5.5 MOTU line, maybe there is hope to feel more of the magic and the roar.

As far as this wave is concerned, zero hip/crotch issues. None. Nada. Everything is fixed in that department. The only problem I noticed was just something that doesn't really matter and that is product serial numbers. Wave 1 had the numbers printed under the boot of the figures whereas this wave has them printed on their backs. They definitely stand out but I can overlook them, especially considering that these figures aren't breaking.

Scale comparison

Definitely a weird arm pose but I have found some ideas for fixing that online.

Comparison with He-Man and She-Ra

Finally together!

The Mutants!

The evil of Third Earth

As you can see, these figures look great and I hope to get more soon!

Replacement MOTU leg connectors by Rama and Amos Del Retro

Back in February, I came across a post on one of the Masters of the Universe Facebook fan pages about replacement leg connectors from a group in Argentina. I had already known about the screw and o-ring method, thanks to He-Bro -  http://he-man.us/Innovations/BrokenLegs.html , and I had used it on a broken Teela earlier this year. It worked well but it doesn't feel permanent. I have a feeling that I will have to replace that sometime soon in the near future. Plus, I am having to actually damage the figure by screwing eye hooks in their legs. Anyway, these new leg connectors felt like something worth looking into. If you go to their website, www.stands-rama.com , they have a tutorial posted on how these work: Now, my spanish isn't great but I kind of got the idea of how these work. Heat the legs, push the connectors through the crotch and attach. Seems easy enough. I searched for some more tutorials and found this one from Toy Palloi: And this one from Michael Mercy: ...

Kenner Batman Returns Catwoman and Penguin Umbrella Jet

Trying to build onto my budding DC Superheroes collection, I decided to look back into the Kenner Batman film toy lines. According to the online perusing I have been able to do recently, I found out that the Batman Returns Catwoman is actually the final product from the concept that had been worked on during the Super Powers line. I didn't need much convincing after that to try to pick the figure up. Getting this in hand, I'm reminded of all of the black and neon Batman Returns merchandise at the time. It was pretty awesome. Googling, I tried to find a picture of a Penguin backpack I had as a kid. I wasn't able to find it but I did find this similar Batman one. Pretty cool. It is interesting that Kenner included Selena's taser as her weapon. The taser scenes were some of the more disturbing moments from a very disturbing film. I think I am more surprised that they actually labeled it as a taser and not try to play it off as something else and jus...

Star Wars Power of the Force Wave 6 Collection

Here they are, the final wave of single figures from the Red Lightsaber Power of the Force 2 collection. It feels weird to know that I have the complete set and that I got them all brand new. As I've mentioned previously, this series was my Star Wars and they arrived in the aisle at the perfect time for my fandom. And being able to grow up with many vintage figures only raised my excitement for the Star Wars relaunch in 1995. My nine to eleven year old self is feeling an incredible sense of satisfaction. And the only thing that had made this collection even more gratifying has been the prices. I know a lot of people bought multiples of figures way back when, expecting to have a giant pay off in the future. I do have some pity for them but, moreso, I'm thankful that their efforts made the prices on these figures fantastic and what we could only wish all of our favorite toy lines still enjoyed. Greedo As much as I love this line, even I can admit that they made some errors. For...

Mega Bloks Mighty Morphin Power Rangers 2016 - Lord Zedd and Custom Squatt

So, 29 Blind Bags later, I completed the official collection with Lord Zedd. I've really enjoyed this series. Sure it is not the most detailed or articulated but there is just a certain fun factor that radiates from these figures. And now that it is complete, my focus has turned to what customs I can create. I've already posted about Rita Repulsa. By Zedd, she looks pretty great. Now I've added another custom with Squatt. It was challenging finding which lego pieces would best reflect the character. Here are my current Evil Space Alien leaders. I still have a few more in the works.

Star Wars Power of the Force Red Box Vehicles X-Wing, AT-ST, and Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper

Speeder Bike with Scout Trooper This was the only one of these three vehicles that my brother and I had as kids. We had two vintage scout troopers so finally having a speeder bike was a big deal. An added plus was that it was the same mold as the vintage line so our original scouts could finally feel the air fog up their goggles. The new scout figure introduced one of my least favorite things about the new Power of the Force line: wide stance, bending knee figures. They just look awkward off of their vehicles and besides the speeder bike, no one else could ride unless they had similar legs. Say what you will about the vintage vehicles and beasts but the trap door mechanism made it possible for most anyone to ride. Thankfully, like I mentioned, this was a vintage mold so we didn't face that issue YET. AT-ST My best friend had the AT-ST so I never felt the rush to go buy one. Though, if it had been in stores longer I probably would have. Return of the Jedi was my favorite Star Wars m...
